My Philosophy

My Philosophy...

For anyone who has concerns about what they believe or are unsure of their beliefs, this may be worth the read

"Objectivity is my philosophy but of course my philosophy could be wrong..."

Before I dive into the more practical application of Objectivity, it is integral to this discussion that we know the denotation of the word, "objective." To be truly objective, one must not be influenced by feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts. This means that we should strive to always question and never blindly accept what appears to be irrevocably true to us. No matter how crazy, how implausible, how illogical something seems, we must absolutely consider the possibility that those beliefs could be true and our beliefs wrong.

Now this does not come easily. I constantly struggle on a daily basis to maintain a satisfactory level of objectivity. Moreover, Objectivity directly contrasts inherent human nature in the way that pride must be tossed out the window. Pride and Objectivity cannot coexist. If one is prideful, they believe that they have some belief, some adroit ability, some perspective that represents a higher level than the collective group of peers around them. If one is to live a life without bias, one must accept the possibility that someone else may be better in certain aspects of living than they are.

In addition to this, Objectivity does not mean that one has to believe in nothing. It merely suggests that until an absolute can be reached, he or she needs to focus on the facts and the facts alone. This is why Objectivity is such a beautiful philosophy to me. Objectivity functions as a facilitator between the underdeveloped, blossoming mind and the intellectual, cultured mind. Objectivity is the intersection that allows for a person to consider all points of view and then subsequently choose the point of view that makes the most sense to them. The bane of America and the world in general will be blindly following in the footsteps of our ancestors without allowing for self thought and meditation. This is an instinctive, yet wrong inclination. To become the ideal individual capable of attaining above adequate levels of understanding one must have beliefs that when considered pragmatically, make the most sense.

To illustrate, consider the example of Politics. When people go to the polls to vote, approximately 65% of voters vote unanimously in favor of one party. Having the perception that all Democrats are good and all Republicans bad, or vice versa leads to wrong, inept officers representing us as a whole. It's easy to blame politicians for our problems but in the end, it ultimately falls on our blatant negligence to elect adept representatives to hold office. Now consider the alternative. If citizens become actively involved in informing themselves of who is the most qualified for a position, correct votes can be cast and consequently, our wishes will be realized and promoted by the very representatives that we elected into office. It turns the tables 180 degrees. Instead of the sweat of the common man working for the politician, we now have politicians working for the betterment of society. Voting for Richard Nixon simply because he was Republican with the knowledge of his immoral involvement in the Watergate scandal seems outrageous to us now but the same concept occurs unknowingly in politics each election. By Objectively looking at the facts and determining who is most qualified for a position, only then will our lives be open to new opportunities and new dreams for us to take and reach.

In essence, if nothing else is gleaned from this blog, at least realize that no longer do you have to follow in the footsteps of your ancestors. No longer do you have to blindly accept what others say. No longer do you have to see the world through another person's eyes. You can see the world for what it is. You can Objectively look at facts. You can make an accurate judgment so when someone questions you about your belief, you can definitively say what you believe and bolster it with facts and evidence that prove it to be irrevocably true. But do not skip the step of Objectivity. Going from biased, unsupported beliefs, bypassing the Objective step, and straight into hardheaded beliefs, when considered collectively as a society will ultimately lead to our decadence.
